Sermon on Exposition BoulevardWhen Jones started out, she was known for wearing battered stiletto heels and a beret and (sometimes) a spandex bodysuit. With a guitar slung over her shoulder, her slurred pronunciation of certain distinctive phrases, such as "livin'it up," part of her distinctive singing syntax, Jones was like no one anyone had ever seen before; a funky runaway who had managed to keep her innocence even as she lived, as she put it, "on the jazz side of life."

Rickie in her new Smart Car

"Spoken-poetry and Waits-y blues moments are just a small part of a wide variety that includes acoustic folk and raw rock, recalling Patti Smith and the Velvet Underground. (The Sermon on Exposition Blvd. is) mature, inspired, confident." -- Sylvie Simmons; San Francisco Chronicle

"An opus that's equal parts earthy and dour, soul-searching and uplifting." -- Patrick Donnelly

"The album is among Jones's most deeply personal and emotionally intense..the most affecting passages come from her singular voice. From ethereal and fragile to stentorian and tough, it conveys feelings in words and phrases and sometimes just sounds, as though actual words have failed. Although the songs in part channel the words of Christ, they're also naturally entwined with her own perceptions and emotions, so the collection never feels preachy but more like a quest." -- Natalie Nichols, LA City Beat
