March 25, 2015. Why New Orleans? >>
You know my dad lived here for a while before he died. His second wife Gene was from the area, daddy and she lived in Mandeville for a while… (more >>)
March 11, 2015. Matt Perrine on sousaphone and trombone, brought in the newest and last song recorded with great style. He also played bass on Blinded by the Hunt. what talents I have worked with on this record. i am going to post, each week, something about someone involved in the record. happy face.
March 10, 2015. It’s official. I have chosen an image by David McClister for my new CD. He shot with natural light, we got a lot of beautiful, interesting shots. The title of the record – The Other Side of Desire- is lit up by the images. I hope we can use a lot of them over the next year.
March 9, 2015. Yesterday was my last day of recording… I put guitar, banjo, voice on ‘charlottes web’ the tentative title. its an instrumental i wrote a poem about a spider … anyway… thats done. December 15, 2014 – Today we finished the new video for “Christmas in New Orleans” a new song from the first recording on my new label The Other Side of Desire. This is also the title of the record, tentatively. Scheduled for June / July release. Video directed by Gail Harvey, New Orleans, December 2014.
The Other Side of Desire is the very first Rickie Lee public funded business effort now Based in New Orleans, the songs are decidedly wonderful, riveting, uplifting.
Check this post for updates about interviews, performances, and recording information – including producer & musician info, and watch for information about new public funding efforts, As the decision (to avoid the banks and go with fans) materializes, it means fans can be proactive, aware, inventive, involved. We look forward to doing business directly with the public supporting what they want to buy. It’s so cool! Keep checking out the Rickie Lee Jones utube channel for videos new and old!
Remember, the first promotional video (that made it to the stores) was back in the year 1979 with the debut of Rickie Lee Jones’ 11 minute cruise down the seedy streets of downtown L.A., Why did WB do it for an unknown? A unique chance to build a legend..an identity, without the years of touring. She had the persona to make it work. and did it ever! By projecting her ‘image’ with the release of the record, fans experienced a unique understanding of the artist, She was instantly familiar. The piece played non-stop in record stores where WB had installed monitors for that single purpose, to promote one artist, with three songs, and launch a career… How do we launch a record today, with the fans supplying the money? Who knows? with a fan base like you to spread the word. 50,000 people will light up the darkness way more than a video screen…. a light in the window – from the other side of Desire.
